A recent New York Times article written by Moises Velasquez-Manoff featured the ASCC Network, highlighting the work taking place at the Chippewa National Forest ASCC site in Minnesota. The article features Brian Palik, the Chippewa National Forest ASCC Site Lead, as well as our partners and ASCC Network leads at the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS), Chris Swanston and Maria Janowiak. Check it out here and learn about some of the tremendous climate adaptation work being done across the U.S.

Please note that we are not accepting applications for new ASCC Network sites at this time. We are focusing our capacity on launching the current cohort of ASCC sites within the Network before establishing new sites. If you want to pursue adaptation demonstrations, the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS) & the USDA Climate Hubs help support the creation of adaptation demonstrations.

Experimental Design

The ASCC study is designed to maintain key experimental design elements that are consistent across all study sites while allowing individual sites to tailor treatments to their unique, local contexts. All ASCC sites followed the same co-development process involving both managers and scientists, with each site utilizing the same experimental approach and study design structure for treatment types and spatial/temporal factors.

ASCC Network Collaborators

The Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change (ASCC) Network is a collaborative effort led by Linda Nagel (Utah State University), Maria Janowiak (USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station; Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science), Courtney Peterson (Colorado State University; Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science), and Chris Swanston (USDA Forest Service Office of Sustainability and Climate).
